The Writer Tag
I was on YouTube earlier and watched Kim Chance‘s last video, “The Writer Tag”.
Since I don’t do videos, I though it would be nice and different for me to try and write this tag here on my blog! So, here it is. Enjoy!
1. What do you eat or drink while writing?
I usually drink tea or ginseng coffee, just a hot beverage to warm myself up (I don’t know if I’ll do the same now that it’s 30°C outside. Argh.) and concentrate. Because, yes, a bomb of caffeine/theine is always good. I’m not one of those people who can’t sleep after a coffee, and maybe my “I drink this so I’ll be more awake” is just a placebo effect, but who cares? They tastes good so…
2. What do you listen to while writing?
Except right now, that I’m listening to my favourites playlist, I usually listen to instrumental music while I write. I like the music I listen so much that my mind can’t just not sing along, and that would be quite distracting. So I listen to jazz music, movies soundtracks and classical music.
If I’m not in the music mood (Rarely happens but happens!) I use, as I already said in my blog post about my writing tools, this website: Noisli. On Noisli, you can choose from 16 different sounds (Rain, wind, forest, …) and make your own focus environment.
I like the rain-thunderstorm-train combo.
3. What is your biggest writing distraction?
Internet, dah! (Such a cliché answer, I know.)
I get pretty distracted by Pinterest, Instagram, music, movies… Do I really have to write the whole list down?
4. What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you while writing?
I got kidnapped by aliens once! Just kidding.
The worst thing that happened to me while I was writing probably was not saving a whole bunch of stuff. (And cry a thousand tears. So many tears.)
5. What’s the best thing that ever happened to you while writing?
Receiving a good critique, I guess. I usually send what I write the exact moment I finish it, without even reading it back, to my best friend Vanessa and ask her for an opinion.
6. Who you communicate with or not communicate with while writing?
My best friend Vanessa is the first person that knows anything about what/when/why I’m writing. She’s my best beta reader, the one I text when I have an idea, a problem, when anything pops in my mind.
7. What’s your secret to success and your biggest writing flaw?
I don’t think I have a secret to success. I’m just passionate about everything I do, that’s how certain things come naturally to me.
My biggest writing flaw is probably my attempt to fill my stories with too many details.
8. What inspires you? Or what makes you productive?
Music is both my biggest inspiration and what makes me productive. The story I’m currently writing is inspired by 7 different songs! (Who says the list can’t grow?)
9. What is one thing you do or other writers do that’s annoying?
One thing I do that’s annoying? Just one?
Okay, well, I think sometimes (too many times) I’m just too passionate about what I love and over-talk about it. Poor people who have to listen to me!
10. Are you willing to share something you’ve written?
“So, inside an ocean of thoughts that made him slowly drowning, one after another without even a pause, that the alarm on his bedside table made a brief sound. Midnight was there. The countdown had officialy started.
The more he tried not to think about it, the more Graham kept turning in his bed with his eyes closed, but his mind wide open.
Would it have been like that every night, for a whole year, until the last day?”
